Coding Typing Practice for Your Class

Free for teachers and students. Share one link and your class is typing real code in the language you teach. No student accounts, no setup.

How It Works in a Class

  1. 01

Pick the track for your course

There are ten tracks: nine languages plus Symbols & Brackets. Each has 150 exercises of real code, ordered from basic syntax to advanced topics.

  2. 02

    Share one link

Send students the chapter page for your track from the table below. That is the whole setup.

  3. 03

    Students practise without accounts

Every exercise shows WPM, accuracy, and errors. Students who sign in also get their best result saved for each exercise; without an account they can still practise, it just is not saved.

  4. 04

    Measure with the typing test

Run the coding typing test at the start of term and again later. When students finish, they can copy a share link with their WPM, accuracy, language, and test length and send it to you.

The Link to Share for Each Course

Students open the link, pick a chapter, and start typing.

A 10-Minute Session

Works as a lab opener or a once-a-week routine.

Minutes 0 to 2

Warm up on the Symbols & Brackets track. In our count of real code, 18 to 29% of characters are symbols, and those are the keys beginners hunt for.

Minutes 2 to 8

Two or three exercises from the chapter that matches this week's topic, so students type the syntax they just learned.

Minutes 8 to 10

One 60-second coding typing test in the course language. Students send you their result link.

Ask students to type every exercise rather than copy it. Typing the syntax is the point.

Questions from Teachers

Is TurboType free for classrooms?▼

Yes. Every track, every exercise, and the coding typing test are free for teachers and students.

Do students need an account?▼

No. Students can practise and take the typing test without signing up. If they sign in, TurboType saves their best result for each exercise.

Can I see my students' progress?▼

There is no teacher dashboard yet. The simplest way today is the typing test: when students finish, they can copy a share link showing their WPM, accuracy, language, and test length, and send it to you.

Which languages are covered?▼

Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, C, C++, PHP, Rust, and HTML & CSS, plus a Symbols & Brackets track. Each track has 150 exercises.

Does it work on school computers and Chromebooks?▼

It runs in the browser, so any computer with a modern browser and a physical keyboard works, including Chromebooks. Phones and tablets are not suitable because typing practice needs a full keyboard.

Is it suitable for complete beginners?▼

Yes. Every track starts with basic syntax and moves to advanced topics in order, so a first-term class can start at chapter one.

Not sure which track fits? Every track is described on the practice modes page.
